Leon picked Brian and I up at the airport in New Plymouth. We had to take a turbo prop plane from Auckland to New Plymouth - it is only a half hour flight over the water, very scenic and the weather was sunny. We had arrived in Auckland at 5 AM and had to wait til 9 AM to take this little plane over. It was good to know we would soon be there!
Emily had been working hard preparing our room for us - painting and cleaning, painting and cleaning. Our room was so beautiful and colorful with a lovely cat quilt on the bed that someone had made for her.
We took a walk to "Back Beach" which is about 5 minutes away from their house. The Tasman Sea is what we see, and is part of the Pacific Ocean. The sand is black because it has iron oxide in it and is volcanic. It sparkles as though it has little flecks of silver in it. The best thing to do is to take off your "jandles" and walk barefoot in it giving your feet a good massage and breathing deeply of fresh ocean air. The waves crash before you and up above there is a colorful parasailer gliding lazily over the high cliff behind us. This is where Leon surfs - whenever the weather allows. Pretty sweet. So here are a few pics of the last few days.
(oops, put the pics in the wrong place - still learning!!)
Nice blog. What a great idea. Sounds like you survived a long journey. Little Miss Sunshine 3X, really? It's such a great movie. Those scenes of them running along the side of the Volkswagon omg I don't think I ever laughed so hard in a movie. Shades of our childhood, for sure!
ReplyDeleteLeon and Em's sounds like PARADISE. Keep the stories comin! Pictures?
